Daishen Nix, Princepal Singh to Feature in 2021 NBA Summer League

To some, it came as a surprise to see 6-foot-5 point guard Daishen Nix fall undrafted in the 2021 NBA Draft. His former G League Ignite teammates Jalen Green and Jonathan Kuminga landed 1st and 7th, respectively, with Isaiah Todd being the 31st pick. All eyes were then firmly set on Nix, but the selection never came.

Going undrafted isn’t the end of the road for these prospects, just look at the likes of Fred VanVleet and Alex Caruso. As expected, Nix was swiftly signed by the Philadelphia 76ers to feature in the NBA Summer League.

The 19-year-old featured in 15 games for Ignite in the 2021 G League bubble. In those contests, he posted averages of 8.8 points, 5.3 assists, and 5.3 rebounds in 26.5 minutes per game.

Daishen Nix proved himself to be a versatile option, initiating the offense, and standing strong on both ends against professional opposition with his large frame. Since, the young guard has cut down his weight and took part in the NBA Draft Combine in impressive shape.

Whether he can land a roster spot on a 76ers team that aims to be championship contenders remains to be seen. But Nix will look to catch the eye of the many NBA onlookers at Summer League. If an opportunity fails to present itself in Philadelphia, it just might elsewhere.

Another former Ignite prospect set for Summer League action is Princepal Singh, who has linked up with the Sacramento Kings to feature in the California Classic. The Indian prospect saw limited minutes during his sole season in the G League, under Brian Shaw’s tutelage. In 4 games, he averaged 2.3 points and 1 rebound in 6.3 minutes per contest.

Singh is a popular international prospect, but fell relatively under the radar in the lead up to the 2021 NBA Draft. Like Kai Sotto, the general expectation was for the 6-foot-9 forward/center to continue his development overseas.

Princepal Singh will have the the chance to impress NBA scouts and front office staff, like Nix. Although, he will have to fight for minutes on a stacked Kings roster. One that features plenty of former NBA, G League, NCAA, and international standouts.

Bubble Review: DaQuan Jeffries, Sacramento Kings

As the 2019-20 NBA season resumed in Orlando, a host of teams battling for postseason action traveled into the bubble. Among those, two-way players who have spent the majority of the season in the G League. As well as players who have been subject to straight NBA call-ups.

The Sacramento Kings were one of the teams in the Western Conference looking to go on a winning streak to sneak into the playoffs. On the roster, was two-way rookie DaQuan Jeffries.

The 22-year-old guard/wing had featured in 27 G League contests for the Stockton Kings in the 2019-20 season. Averaging 16.6 points, 6.9 rebounds, 1.7 assists, and 1.2 steals. On December 13, Jeffries scored a career-high 44 points in a win over the Sioux Falls Skyforce.

Prior to the NBA bubble, Jeffries had only played in 5 games for the Sacramento Kings. However, he was much more present over the past month.

He appeared in 7 contests (17 MPG) for the Kings, with averages of 6.1 points and 2.4 rebounds. On 56% shooting from the field. Including impressive outings against the Orlando Magic and Houston Rockets, where he scored 12 points and 13 points, respectively.

Against the Magic, he shot perfectly from the field (5-5) and 3-point range (2-2). Whilst also tallying 2 rebounds, 1 assist, and 1 steal. His points total (13) against the Rockets was a career-high, as was the amount of minutes he played (30).

Luke Walton’s Sacramento Kings went 3-5 during the NBA restart and missed out on the Western Conference playoffs by 3 games. With an overall record of 31-41.

Kyle Guy, the Young Kings Star Destined for the NBA

Most known for being part of the Virginia Cavaliers side that won the 2019 NCAA Championship, two-way rookie Kyle Guy has been carving a name for himself in the NBA G League this season.

He knocked down 24-points in his final college game, and has taken that scoring to the professional ranks. For the Stockton Kings, Guy is averaging 21.5 points, 3.4 rebounds, 4.8 assists, and 1.1 steals, on the season.

From range, he’s lights-out, converting at a 40% clip. Back in December, he scored 42 points against the Iowa Wolves, on 8-16 shooting from beyond the arc. This is tied with Marial Shayok, of the Delaware Blue Coats, for the most points by an individual this season.

In addition, he recorded seven 3-pointers in a 37-point outburst against the Oklahoma City Blue in January. Guy is certainly a dangerous outside threat, holding the 7th spot for the best 3-point percentage in the league.

In terms of total 3-point shots made, he’s in top spot with 142.

Player Profile:

The 22-year-old guard is the definition of a modern NBA player. A large bulk of his work is done from 3-point land (8.9 attempts per game), from catch-and-shoot scenarios. He possesses smooth shooting mechanics, with a quick release, that’s easy on the eye. Klay Thompson and Kyle Korver-esque.

From time-to-time, he can mix it up and roll to the rim. Despite standing at 6-foot-1, his speed and agility allows him to convert in the paint or dish out the assist. Additionally, he can handle the ball and produce.

Guy had a rough start to the season, shooting below 40% in the first two months of the season. However, that appeared to be him adjusting to the professional game. His 12.7 3-point attempts in November reduced to 8.4 through the months of January and March. With his shooting efficiency rising.

Before the season suspension, Guy was averaging 29.8 points in the month of March (4 games). Along with 3.8 rebounds, and an incredible 9 assists per game. Whilst converting at a 48.2% rate from the field, 45.7% from 3. His efforts helped push the Stockton Kings to a 23-14 record on the season.

Being selected with the 55th pick in the 2019 NBA Draft by the Sacramento Kings, Guy signed a two-way contract. This would allow him to develop his craft primarily in the G League. He has featured in 2 NBA games, averaging 1 point in 2 minutes per game.

Unfortunately for Guy, the Kings are stacked in his position. With De’Aaron Fox, Buddy Hield, Bogdan Bogdanovic, and Yogi Ferrell all taking guard minutes. Even Kent Bazemore can slide to the 2 also.

However, Luke Walton and Vlade Divac must be keeping an eye on his G League exploits. Kyle Guy certainly deserves a legitimate NBA opportunity. He’ll most likely impress.
